As a fully recovered Type B Binge / Purging Type Anorexic , I find it very concerning to find the huge following of the ' Secret Society of the Underground Eating Disorder Community' that can be found on the the internet. Extremely ill individuals called Rexies promote Ed (eating disorder), Ana (anorexic) and Mia (bulimia) as a popular 'club' and 'chosen lifestyle' to be involved in. With it's own secret code and knowledge transfer it is definitely not the place to be involved in for anyone who is trying or wants to recover from this awful ill-ness.
The type of information that is openly shared in this 'community' between fellow sufferers via personal websites are not for the faint hearted. Although to an outsider or recovered individual it does show how severely self consuming and self centred and mentally sick people with the illness actually become. It shocks me to think I to was once like this.
I do hope that it is not to late for some of these desperately ill individuals 'to get their Life back'. I understand where they are coming from. Feeling they have no other out let to communicate and wanting to be understood and to be accepted. But , it is desperately saddening, and for some individuals so young are wasting so much valuable and precious time involved in a 'society' of so much negativity.
I have been lucky. I did finally spend 9 months as an in patient in hospital getting treatment and help for my illness. I know there are many people out there who just need more support and understanding to have a chance of turning the clock before the illness takes hold seriously.
Unfortunately if the illness is not caught very early on it silently and slowly strangles the life out of you consuming the entire mind. This is where for any chance of recovery hospitalization away from influence I think is the only way towards a successful recovery.
It is crucial in the recovery plan to restore a healthy body weight. The hardest part is trying to live with yourself as you try to establish a healthy eating pattern and gain a positive attitude towards your own body image and improve self esteem.
It is Hard ,it is frustrating , you will want to explode with anger you will want to give up ?but Remember tough times never last , but tough people do ?there is living proof.
